Considering the same, the Ministry of External Affairs has introduced a new ‘tatkal scheme’ under which, passports can be issued in no time. Process of getting a new passport or renewal of passport in tatkal mode.

We have listed the steps that you need to follow to get your passport made in the tatkal mode under:

  • The first step is to register yourself on Passport Seva and log in. Enter your ID and password.
  • The portal will present two choices- Fresh and Reissue. Choose the option and select the ‘Tatkal’ option in the scheme type.
  • Now, download the form, fill it and submit the same.
  • Then, make the payment and get your payment receipt printed.
  • It’s time to book the appointment at a suitable Passport Seva Kendra.

Eligibility criteria to get a tatkal passport. 

There are certain eligibility criteria fixed by the jurisdictional passport office to get your passport done under the tatkal scheme. Urgency being the major factor, there are certain other categories fixed too which are considered while issuing a new passport or passport renewal under the tatkal scheme, failing which you cannot get your passport in tatkal mode. These are:

  • Applicants must be of Indian descent.
  • Citizens who were granted citizenship through registration.
  • Applicants who were deported to India from other countries.
  • Jammu and Kashmir residents.
  • Nagaland residents.
  • Minor children with single parents.
  • Adopted children, either by Indian and foreign parents.
  • Minors residents of Nagaland.
  • Change is sex or appearance.
  • Change in some particulars, such as a signature.

What are the documents necessary to get a passport through tatkal mode?

Documents required to get passport made through tatkal mode are listed as under:

  1. Verification certificate as per Annexure F
  2. Any 3 of the following documents- 
  • Election card
  • Service photo ID card
  • Ration card
  • PAN card as issued by Income Tax department
  •  Driving license
  • Bank passbook
  • Birth certificate
  • Property documents 
  • Certificate of SC/ST/OBC 

How much time does it take to get a tatkal passport?

As soon as the applicant submits the application and does all the paperwork, Tatkal passport, on a usual basis, takes around 1-3 days to get prepared. Under this scheme, you can also get early appointments at PSK.
