It is a myth commonly believed that a passport is required only for traveling abroad. Rather a passport also serves as proof of a person’s nationality. Do you know the passport needs police verification?

Police verification is a crucial aspect of getting a passport done. The process is all about verifying all the details of the applicant, such as name, age, and address. The process is carried out through a police officer.

Police verification can be:

  1. Done before the issuance of passport ( pre police verification)
  2. Done after the issuance of passport ( post police verification)

Pre-police verification: sometimes police verification is done before the issuance of the passport. The applicant applies for the verification online and the whole procedure is carried out by an officer. Once the verification is done, the authority informs the respective passport office to take the process forward and issue the passport.

Post-police verification: post-police verification is also done in certain cases. In these cases, police verification is administered after the passport is issued to the applicant.

It is to be noted that police verification is not required if one applies for renewal of passport before their current passport expires.
